your post reminds me of an episode of this show i've started watching recently on hulu.com called 'FlashForward', about all of these people who pass out at the same time around the world and have visions of the same day in the future. those who did NOT have a vision are assuming they will be dead that day, and are calling themselves 'ghosts' and living each day as if it doesn't matter, they'll be dead anyway.
the main characters are realizing that the future is up to you, and you cannot just let things happen to you, you must make choices and CREATE your future and be PROACTIEV about it, or perhaps indeed you are just like a ghost in this world.
